Salsa & Beer #1 - 6740 White Oak Ave, Lake Balboa

Jen C.:

What’s not to love? The place truly lives up to its reputation. With several locations around town, we found ourselves hunting for one that could accommodate our group of five on a Sunday afternoon. Each spot was bustling, but we managed to find seats at the bar here. The service was commendable, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The margaritas were impressively large, potent, and flavorful. The abundance of fresh salsa was delightful, and the spicier options were surprisingly tasty.

I ordered the Spicy Carnitas, and they were phenomenal. The sauce was bursting with flavor, complemented perfectly by a special cheese that tied the dish together. The portions were generous-perhaps more than I needed, but I was glad to have leftovers. I’m definitely a fan!

Over the years of dining at this restaurant, I've always experienced a positive vibe. The food is consistently amazing and fresh, and the service is excellent, with friendly staff. They have expanded into the outside parking lot, a change that started around the Covid era. The outdoor seating area is equipped with heat lamps, providing a cozy atmosphere. The indoor space remains the same, with the salsa bar located in the corner, which can get a bit crowded.

The food is always fresh, and the portions are quite large, ensuring plenty of leftovers. They offer a selection of alcohol, including beer and wine margaritas, although it isn't a full bar like the North Hollywood location. Prices have increased, much like everywhere else.

Yin K.:

Whenever I'm in the valley, I make it a point to visit this spot! No matter if it's a weekday or weekend, they always get incredibly busy during lunch and dinner times.

As soon as you sit down, they serve you a basket of chips with their unique bean dip, which is absolutely delicious and something you won’t find anywhere else. I usually order their fajitas, and occasionally, the enchiladas. The fajitas arrive on a sizzling hot platter, loaded with shrimp, chicken, beef, and grilled vegetables. Alongside, there's a plate with rice, beans, sour cream, guacamole, and more veggies. You can choose between flour or corn tortillas (not shown in the picture).

One of my favorite features is their salsa bar, offering a wide variety of salsas. I absolutely love their salsa! The food always tastes great, but I’m deducting one star because their service tends to be a bit slow, likely due to how busy they are. The prices are on the higher side, but they are clearly posted, so you know what to expect before being seated or placing your order.

Salsa & Beer #2 - 11669 Sherman Way, Sun Valley

Mauriel D.:

This venue gets incredibly crowded, so I highly recommend arriving early, as there's even a line for parking. Upon entering, you'll notice it's quite dimly lit, but the ambiance is perfect for families and gatherings. The space is generally large, though it felt smaller due to the crowd during my visit. I was really looking forward to eating here as I was starving and had heard many good things about this place. The aroma inside was absolutely mouthwatering. Our server was very friendly and efficient, swiftly taking our orders and delivering everything quickly and fresh. The portions were enormous and perfect for sharing. If you're in the area, be sure to check this place out!

This popular restaurant is bustling for a good reason: it offers delicious Mexican cuisine with options for everyone. Although they don’t accept reservations, they do have a waitlist system where someone from your party can check in early, but the table will not be ready until everyone has arrived.

The margaritas are generously sized, though not particularly strong. The food portions are enormous, so you can expect to take leftovers home. Both the burritos and flautas were fantastic, although the pico de gallo contained large tomato chunks instead of being finely diced. Overall, it was a fun dining experience, and I would be interested in trying their other locations.

Salsa & Beer #2 in North Hollywood is one of my top picks for dining with friends and family visiting from out of town. The bean dip and salsa bar are absolute highlights-we have a blast sampling all the different salsas. The bean dip, in particular, is the best I've ever had and, to my delight, it's vegetarian.

The menu at Salsa & Beer #2 features a variety of beloved Mexican dishes, all packed with flavor and served in generous portions. My go-to order is the Fajitas, which are ample enough to share between two people with leftovers to spare. This restaurant is ideal for dinners with friends, and the moderate noise level adds to the lively atmosphere.

The service is generally excellent, though occasionally you might need to catch the attention of your server for a chip refill. Food is typically served within 10 minutes. The parking lot can get busy, but the restaurant handles it efficiently. Except for my most recent visit, I've never had to wait for a spot, and even then, it only took about 5 minutes to find parking.

Salsa & Beer #3 - 12516 Vanowen St, North Hollywood

Henry D.:

I've been eager to try Salsa & Beer for quite some time, but I'd heard that the main location on Sherman Way often had long lines and difficult parking. My son suggested that the Vanowen location would be easier for placing a to-go order and finding parking. To my surprise, parking was easy to find on the street, and there was even a small parking lot in front of the restaurant with available spaces.

I placed a to-go order at the restaurant, and the young lady who took my order kindly gave me a big bowl of warm chips and bean dip along with a glass of water while I waited. Although I felt a bit guilty for not finishing all the chips and dip, it could have easily been a meal on its own.

I ordered a combo meal with taquitos and beef enchiladas, which came with rice and beans, plus a large cup of horchata. The meal also included complimentary chips and dip. The taquitos were deliciously fried and served with sour cream, guacamole, and salsa. The enchiladas were excellent, featuring flavorful shredded beef and a rich sauce. The rice and beans were tasty as well. My family enjoyed some of the chips and dip, appreciating the warm beans and slight kick of the dip.

There are so many more dishes I want to try at Salsa & Beer, so it will definitely be on my list for my next trip to LA. If you're looking for something beyond street tacos, check out their diverse menu of home-cooked meals. The service is great, with friendly staff. Come with a big appetite-generous portions ensure you won't be disappointed.

Crissy G.:

This is the perfect spot if you're seeking a cozy, intimate dining experience. I always choose this place when I want to relax in my comfy clothes. Parking can be a bit challenging, so we usually opt for street parking. I've been a regular here for years and am aware that service can sometimes be slow due to understaffing. However, with a bit of patience and appreciation for the hardworking staff, you'll have a pleasant time. Weekend evenings can be particularly busy, so be prepared for a wait or arrive earlier to avoid the rush. Nicholas offers exceptional service! The carne asada and camarones a la diabla are absolutely mouthwatering.

McKenzie R.:

First off, let me say that we're huge fans of Salsa and Beer #2! It's hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant.

Here's the catch, though: it's always bustling, no matter when you go. Parking is a hassle, and there's always a wait. But trust me, it's absolutely worth it.

Enter Salsa and Beer #3. It's much smaller than #2, but parking was a breeze, there was no wait, and the food was just as amazing as at my beloved #2. And the cherry on top? We had the most fantastic waitress ever-Martha! If you visit, be sure to ask for her and tell her McKenzie and Zach sent you. You won't be disappointed!

Here's another fun tidbit: there's also Salsa and Beer #4! It offers the same great experience, and its size falls somewhere between #2 and #3.

For the best Mexican food in the San Fernando Valley, you can't go wrong with any of the Salsa and Beer locations!

Salsa & Beer #4 - 11720 Vanowen St, North Hollywood

Roy K.:

They have a spacious parking lot, and parking is free of charge. Be mindful that weekends can be extremely busy; you might end up waiting more than 30 minutes. The cuisine is authentic Mexican, and the drinks are generously sized. Feel free to order more and enjoy a fun time with family and friends. Don't forget to ask for Daniella-she's a fantastic, friendly, and delightful bartender.

Max B.:

Wow! After a long day at work and paying rent, what a fantastic way to end a Friday night! These days, it’s crucial to make good choices to ensure you don’t spoil a nice evening.

Previously, I considered this place as a middle-ground option because the food was sometimes just okay. However, I must say, they have improved tremendously!

The customer service has always outshined the food here. But last night, both were exceptional, scoring a perfect 10 out of 10. The crowd can be a bit overwhelming, but the staff managed their guests so well that I made sure to thank them for their great attitude.

The food was plentiful and excellently prepared! I had the fajitas, as usual. Typically, the fajitas here resemble a wet salad. But last night, wow! The presentation was hot and steaming, with tender vegetables and a medium-well grilled steak. There was plenty of shrimp, and the shrimp cocktail was divine as well! We had two large drinks, though an extra shot would have been nice. At $105, it was worth every penny.

For a restaurant to serve so many people with such a great attitude, presentation, and quality, I was very impressed! Keep it up! The wait was 45 minutes, but the bar always had a seat or two available. The only downside is that depending on who’s at the bar, you might feel a bit out of place if you’re friendly and they’re not.

Deborah G.:

This place offers the most affordable and delicious Mexican food I've ever tasted, and their rice is simply the best I've ever had. The service is consistently quick and efficient, making each visit enjoyable.

While the ambiance is generally pleasant, the layout of this particular location could use some improvement. The tables are positioned in a way that makes it difficult for people to move around comfortably, and the chairs are so heavy and large that it’s challenging to sit comfortably with your group. Although I’ve tried both tables and booths, I prefer the booths for a more comfortable experience. Removing the small house structure in the middle would create more space and enhance the overall comfort.

Despite these minor issues, I keep coming back and will continue to do so.
